This has been sitting in my saved articles for a while now, and I finally found some time to get around to reading it, and I'm glad I did! It's an interesting study. I'm particularly interested in the implications for autism. I'm trying to think through what theoretical reasons there would be for assuming autism would lead to difficulties in contextual interpretation as opposed to facial expression recognition, or vise versa.

My lay understanding of autism is that there is a tendency to over categorize, which is a sort of "under fitting", and a sort of ignoring of context and exceptions. So based on that I would hypothesize that those with autism would tend towards focusing purely on facial expressions without taking into account context. But Im curious about your take, because I'm sure the opposite could be justified somehow.
