Learning to do Behavioral Science Research Better
Welcome to my newsletter on improving psychology and behavioral science!
I’m a researcher who uses statistical modeling to understand how psychological processes, like emotions and social interactions, influence us. Doing this research has naturally led me to ask deeper questions about how to do good social science, and to question some of the norms of the field.
Asking how to do better research led me to the Credibility Revolution in psychology, a movement to reform and improve scientific practices. Most of what I’ll write about here is exploring how the Credibility Revolution is trying to solve problems working scientists face—and the limitations of those solutions.
I’ve been blogging about how to do better psychology research (and some other topics) at Psychology Today since April 2019, and have amassed over a quarter million views in that time. This newsletter will contain links and excerpts to all the content that comes out in my PT blog, but it will also include writing that wouldn’t naturally fit in that blog’s format: longer pieces, links to writing I found valuable, and multi-part series.
I’ll try to flag any content that gets too in the weeds regarding statistics or philosophy up top, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to write about those topics in a way that will be interesting and insightful even for non-experts.
